There
are a few other fables, not enough to collect
in any way, and having no particular common
setting or theme.
This is
one of these neglected children of my
imagination. We are repeatedly told by the
champions of “capitalism” and
“free enterprise” (neither of
which exist, nor ever have existed) that
ambition and “drive” are good,
and that it is a fine thing to write off
honesty by saying “let the buyer
beware”. But these so-called moral
foundations of the modern
“economy” (which is so very far
from being economical ...) are lies easily
defeated by honesty and love.
It is a
somber thought that many of those that read
this may well live to see the death of the
Last Tiger.
And it
is an even darker thought that some of them
may live to see the death of the Last Rabbit.
But we can hope that these events never
occur, despite the General Trends of the
World These Days.
